Video Game Metal Band Releases New Metroid, Kirby Covers

Powerglove, a band that plays instrumental covers of video game songs, has released new tracks from its upcoming album. The album, Continue?, has something of a unique release model. One track debuts each month for the next 13 months, with a physical box set of the album launching at that time.
The first two songs, “Kraid's Lair” from the Metroid series, and “Kirby” from that franchise of the same name, are out now. You can stream them through YouTube and Spotify or buy the tunes from digital stores for about $1. The songs sound like classic Powerglove–heavy, melodic, and driving. You can listen to “Kraid's Lair” and “Kirby” through the YouTube embeds below.
Continue? is Powerglove's sixth full-length album, following Total Pwnage (2005), Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man (2007), Saturday Morning Apocalypse (2010), TV Game Metal (2012), and Video Game Metal (2014).
Powerglove gets its name from the NES accessory of the same name. The band has performed at video game sho..

Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s Writers Revealed

The writers for Star Wars: Battlefront II have been revealed.
The story has two main scribes: Walt Williams, who wrote the story for the well-received military shooter Spec Ops: The Line, and former IGN video game editor Mitch Dyer.
Game director Mark Thompson told Glixel that both Williams and Dyer are “voracious fans” of Star Wars; each posses an “encyclopedia knowledge of everything that existed” in Star Wars, he said.
Unlike many Star Wars stories, Battlefront II's is told from the perspective of an Empire soldier. The game picks up after the events of Return of the Jedi, putting you into the boots of Iden Versio.
“Between the original trilogy and the new trilogy, there were stories starting to be published [as fiction], but no 'visual' storytelling,” Thompson said about choosing this particular era for Battlefront II. “There wasn't anything visual or interactive that had been done in that space. That seemed like a good place for us to do something different ..

Persona 5’s Fantastic, 110-Song Soundtrack Now Available For Sale

Persona 5 has a lot going for it, and that includes an excellent original soundtrack. Luckily, you can now enjoy its wonderful jazzy music whenever you want.
Atlus today announced that Persona 5's soundtrack is now available for purchase on iTunes. This is the full, 110-song album that's available for download. That includes the phenomenal menu music track, “Phantom,” which is my personal favorite.
Being so large, it comes with the somewhat hefty price tag of $30. Alternatively, you can pick up individual songs for $1.29 each. That pricing applies to the lengthier songs that run 4-5 minutes as well as those that last less than 60 seconds.
Persona 5 released earlier this month for PS4 and PS3 to rave reviews. Free and paid DLC have since arrived, delivering new costumes and music based on other Atlus games, among other things. New DLC arrived today themed around Persona 2, with more still to come. You can check out the full Persona 5 DLC schedule here.

Facebook Launches Its “In-Person” VR Hangout App For Oculus Rift

Facebook Spaces, the app that allows you to essentially hang out with friends “in-person” through virtual reality, has arrived in beta for Oculus Rift.
Spaces requires both a Rift and Oculus Touch but is otherwise a free download from the Oculus Store. As Facebook describes it, the app provides an “interactive virtual environment” that allows you to spend time with people as if you were in a room together.
You can do more than just simply look at each other, though. You can experience 360-degree videos, draw 3D objects, video call friends who aren't using VR, and so on. Your legless VR body can be customized, with options to change your facial features, hairstyle, eye color, and more
The video above provides an idea of what's possible, at least with an ideal setup. Facebook intends to continue updating the app as it receives feedback from users.
Facebook, which purchased Oculus in 2014 for $2 billion, has committed to VR in a big way. Founder Mark Zuckerberg has said he belie..

StarCraft Goes Free Today With New Patch, Its First In 8+ Years

Update: The patch is now available, making StarCraft free on PC (download here) and Mac (here). Be sure to heed the warning below about using the Run as Admin option when updating your game.
Original Story: Blizzard has released the patch notes for a new StarCraft update, which it says is the game's first in over eight years.
The update is scheduled to go live at 2 PM PT, and Blizzard notes that you should use the Run as Admin option when installing it. It says this is needed the first time you open the client in order to successfully carry over saves and avoid any other issues.
Most significantly, this patch will make the game and the Brood War expansion a free download for everyone. This move paves the way for the remastered edition of the game to launch later this year.
In terms of changes, this patch adds an Observer mode; improved compatibility with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10; better anti-cheat features; and support for windowed fullscreen and windowed modes, which can be swapped..

New Morrowind, Borderlands Funko Pop Figures Coming Soon

Funko's line of game-themed merchandise will soon expand even further, with new toys on the way based on The Elder Scrolls, Mega Man, and Borderlands.
Both Borderlands and Elder Scrolls get the Pop Vinyl treatment. The latter figures tie into The Elder Scrolls Online's upcoming Morrowind expansion. Players of the original Morrowind will remember Vivec, while the other two come specifically from ESO: Naryu (a Dunmer and member of the Morag Tong), and Warden (the expansion's new playable class). All three will be available in June.
The Borderlands figures were first shown off earlier this year at the New York Toy Fair and include those based on Claptrap, Lilith, and Zero. You can check those out alongside the Morrowind figures above; they also launch in June.
With Pop figures based on Mega Man already available, the series gets its own line of Pint Size Heroes toys. These tiny toys come in blind bags and consist of characters like Mega Man, Protoman, and Dr. Light, among o..

Watch Kingsman 2’s First Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for the sequel to Kingsman has arrived, and there's a lot packed into a few short seconds.
If you're looking for a firm understanding of what Kingsman: The Golden Circle's story is all about, you'll walk away disappointed. The meat of the trailer (above) lasts only about five seconds but is jam-packed with blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpses of what seems like it could be every scene in the movie.
We recently got our first look at many of the film's characters, and this trailer provides another (extremely brief) peek at many of the new additions to the cast. This includes Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, and Halle Berry, with star Taron Egerton also featured prominently.
Who we don't see is Colin Firth's Harry Hart, who was recently confirmed to make a return after earlier teases. At least Mr. Pickles makes an appearance.
Like the first film, The Golden Circle is directed by Matthew Vaughn. It's slated for..

AMD Updates Drivers To Support New RX 580 And RX 570 Video Cards

Alongside the launch of the RX 580 and RX 570 video cards, AMD released a new version its Radeon Crimson ReLive software suite. The highlights of edition 17.4.3 are simply driver support for both cards and functionality for the Windows 10 Creators Update.
The previous 17.4.2 driver addressed several issues, such as better multi-GPU performance in Battlefield 1 and improved support for SteamVR asynchronous reprojection. It was also the first driver to support Windows 10 Creators Update features like Game Mode, built-in streaming from Beam, and high dynamic range (HDR) in applications.
The following are the current known issues with the Crimson ReLive 17.4.3 software, as stated in the release notes:

It’s A Big Day For Remastered Game Releases

Remakes and remasters are hardly a new trend, but it seems uncommon that we get four of them on a single day.
Today sees the release of Voodoo Vince Remastered, Full Throttle Remastered, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, and Disney Afternoon Collection. The latter consists of six different games: Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and its sequel, Darkwing Duck, DuckTales and its sequel, and TaleSpin.
Voodoo Vince RemasteredAs noted in a tweet from Frank Cifaldi, who now heads up the Video Game History Foundation, it's interesting to see how each of the four handles its source material's graphics differently. These range from the Disney approach of preserving the original look to Wonderboy's completely new artwork (though you're free to switch between the new and old look, as is also the case with Full Throttle).
Cifaldi, who worked on Disney Afternoon Collection, also shared some background on its development in subsequent tweets. He explains the process of includin..
