Nintendo Switch EShop Adds Its Second New Game Of The Week

Switch owners will have another game option on the eShop beginning today, Nintendo has announced. It marks the second new release of the week.
Today's addition is the latest title in the ACA Neo Geo line: Last Resort. Unlike so many of the other Neo Geo games available on Switch, this isn't a fighting game; it's instead a classic side-scrolling shoot-em-up from 1992. It can be had for $8/£6.29.
Last Resort follows this week's earlier release, Astro Duel Deluxe. This is also a retro-style shooter, albeit a much more colorful one that is essentially an enhanced version of a game released on PC last year. It offers local multiplayer support for 1-6 players and costs $15/£12.59.
Last week was a slightly busier one on the eShop, with a total of three new games: Disgaea 5 Complete, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, and The King of Fighters '99.

New Book From Lord Of The Rings Author Published 100 Years After It Was Written

Although J.R.R. Tolkien is best known for The Lord of the Rings, he wrote many other stories during his life. Over the years, several of his earliest works have been released that give a glimpse of Tolkien's first attempts to construct fantasy tales and worlds. Today, 100 years after it was written, another of Tolkien's works has been published.
Beren and Luthien tells the story of a mortal man and an immortal elf who are tasked by Luthien's father to steal a Silmaril gem from Melkor, the greatest of the evil beings. The story was reworked and told in The Silmarillion, Tolkien's anthology of short stories and tales about Middle-earth. The theme of love between mortal man and immortal elf woman also shows up in The Lord of the Rings with the romance between Aragorn and Arwen.
This version of Beren and Luthien was announced last year and has been put together by Tolkien's son, Christopher, who collected many iterations of the story to show its evolution. It is ac..

Nintendo Switch’s Fire Emblem Warriors Gets New Screenshots

Koei Tecmo has launched the official Japanese website for Fire Emblem Warriors, and it contains some new screenshots of the upcoming Switch title.
Like Hyrule Warriors before it, Fire Emblem Warriors is a joint venture between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo that sees the classic franchise reinterpreted in the vein of Dynasty Warriors. The game features characters drawn from several Fire Emblem titles (primarily Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Fire Emblem Fates) battling against waves of foes in large-scale, hack-and-slash clashes. The images posted on the game's website give us our first glimpse at its new twin protagonists, Shion and Lian, who were revealed in the most recent issue of Famitsu. The website also contains several screenshots of Chrom and Marth, the only two classic Fire Emblem heroes confirmed for the title thus far.
Despite the different gameplay style, Fire Emblem Warriors retains many traditional Fire Emblem elements, including the series' we..

Square Enix Partners With Bulletstorm Dev For “High-End Original Title”

Square Enix may be trying to part ways with Hitman developer IO Interactive, but that doesn't mean it's avoiding new deals with European studios. The publisher today announced a partnership with Poland-based People Can Fly, best known as the developer of Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment.
The two companies will collaborate on a “new high-end original title for console and PC.” Specific consoles or even a hint of what kind of game this will be were not shared. People Can Fly's history would suggest an action game or shooter, but that's merely speculation at this point.
People Can Fly's Bulletstorm: Full Clip EditionJob listings on People Can Fly's website suggest the game could have both a campaign and multiplayer component. Another calls for experience with “chokepoints, routes, lines of sight, [and] engagement distances,” which would make sense if the project is indeed an action game. Of course, not all of these jobs are necessarily for the new Squar..
