Microsoft’s Netflix-Style Xbox Game Pass Launches Today For Everyone

Following its early release for Xbox Live Gold members (and testers before that), the Xbox One's Netflix-style subscription program, Xbox Game Pass, launched for everyone today.
Beginning today, everyone can sign up for an Xbox Game Pass membership, starting with a 14-day free trial. There are more than 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games in the catalog, including Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Payday 2, BioShock Infinite, and so many more. You don't stream the games, but instead download them, so you may want to consider investing in an external hard drive solution if you're planning to pick up a lot of the games.
Microsoft has said it plans to add more games to the catalog every month, and some could drop out.
If you're enjoying a game and want to own it permanently, you'll save 20 percent on game purchases and 10 percent on DLC. This only applies to Xbox One games and expansions.
You can sign up for Xbox Game Pass here, while Microsoft w..

See What Happens When A Nintendo Switch Gets Dropped From 1,000 Feet

A “durability review” of the Nintendo Switch console concludes that the hybrid system can be dropped from an impressive height and remain functional. As you'll see in the video below from the YouTube channel UnlockRiver (via Polygon), the Switch survives a 1,000-foot drop and remains operational, though the left Joy-Con was shattered when it hit the ground.
They tape the Switch to string and attach it to a drone, which they fly to 1,000 feet in the air. They then cut it loose and it sails to the concrete parking lot below, amazingly (mostly) surviving the impact. We are working under the assumption here that there was no camera magic or funny business going on behind the scenes. It certainly looks legit, at least. Here's the video:
This is not the first drop test that people on YouTube have conducted for the Nintendo Switch. The operators of the YouTube channel GizmoSlip dropped the console 11 times from 5 feet (including four screen-side down drops) back in March before the ..

Netflix CEO Explains Why He Wants To Cancel More Shows

It's not every day that the CEO of a company announces that they want to cancel more of their products, but that's the case today with the chief of Netflix.
Reed Hastings, who founded Netflix, told CNBC (via IGN) that Netflix should invest in riskier shows, which would in turn lead to more cancellations if they don't work out. Trying new things is incredibly important, Hastings said, pointing to a show like 13 Reasons Why, which was highly controversial and very popular, leading to a second second coming up.
“Our hit ratio is way too high right now,” Hastings said. “We've canceled very few shows. I'm always pushing the content team, we have to take more risk, you have to try more crazy things. Because we should have a higher cancel rate overall.”
“Because then, what you get is you get some winners that are just unbelievable winners like 13 Reasons Why. And you know, it surprised us, too. I mean, it was a great show, but we didn't realise just how it would ..

Resident Evil Movie Star Almost Quit The First One And She Explains Why

All six of the Resident Evil movies have featured Milla Jovovich in the lead role of Alice. But the actress has now revealed that she almost bowed out of the first one. Speaking to Inverse, Jovovich said she “almost quit the movie” because her role was apparently being re-written for Michelle Rodriguez, who was getting a lot of attention at the time for her role in Girlfight.
“She was very hot at that moment, and my hotness had sort of been already four years old by that point,” Jovovich said (via Entertainment Weekly). “So [director Paul W.S. Anderson] rewrote the script for her. It pretty much made my character 'the girl,' and Rain [Rodriguez's character] was 'the guy.' She got all of my big action scenes, and she became like Alice. And then Alice became this tag-along.”
Jovovich recalled reading the script for the first Resident Evil film on a flight from Canada to Germany. “I was livid. I got to the hotel and said, 'We have to have to a big talk or I&#..

Harvard To Offer A Game Of Thrones-Inspired History Course

Harvard, one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions ever, has announced it will offer a Game of Thrones-inspired history course. The school revealed to Time that the introductory level-100 course, “The Real Game of Thrones: From Modern Myths to Medieval Models,” will start this fall.
The folklore and mythology class will examine how author George R.R. Martin's book series and HBO's TV show “echoes and adapts, as well as distorts the history and culture of the 'medieval world' of Eurasia from c. 400 to 1500 CE.” This will be done by exploring ” a set of archetypal characters at the heart of Game of Thrones–the king, the good wife, the second son, the adventurer, and so on–with distinct analogues in medieval history, literature, religion, and legend.”
One of the professors is Sean Gilsdorf, who is a medieval historian and director for Medieval Studies at Harvard. He's teaching the class alongside assistant professor of German and the Study ..
